Description
IMPRES Public Safety Remote Speaker Microphone with Antenna Port for APX
Genuine Motorola Solutions Original 24-inch public safety microphone featuring Windporting, elevated RF antenna port, 3.5mm audio jack, and volume toggle.
The Motorola PMMN4060B (available in standard commercial trim as PMMN4060B and CSA-certified intrinsically safe trim as PMMN4060BSP01) is an authentic original equipment manufacturer (OEM) IMPRES™ Public Safety Microphone (PSM) engineered specifically for Motorola APX Series digital portable two-way radios. Designed for patrol officers, tactical tactical units, municipal emergency responders, and industrial plant security, this heavy-duty microphone integrates an RF antenna connection directly on the microphone head. Sourced directly from our verified inventory of Motorola Two-Way Radios & Accessories, the PMMN4060B elevates the radio's antenna to shoulder height, reducing body shielding and substantially improving transmission coverage.
Engineered for severe outdoor operating conditions, the Motorola PMMN4060B incorporates Windporting technology that suppresses wind noise in gusty environments and prevents water from pooling over the microphone cartridge during heavy rain. Built and tested to withstand mechanical drop shock and tactical cable tension under DoD Standards (MIL-STD-810H), the housing is sealed against dust and water ingress certified under IEC Standards (IEC 60529 IP55). For hazardous facilities and energy sectors requiring specialized safety approvals, the PMMN4060BSP01 variant is certified intrinsically safe under Canadian Standards Association (CSA) mandates. Supporting ergonomic workplace communication guidelines under OSHA Standards, the microphone features a 24-inch coiled cord, an oversized PTT paddle, a top-mounted orange emergency button, a high/low volume toggle, a side programmable button, and an unthreaded 3.5mm receive-only audio jack for secondary earpieces. Note: This microphone is recommended for UHF radios; VHF frequency operation is not supported. Host antenna is sold separately.
Key Features & Benefits
-
Elevated RF Antenna Port: Relocates the radio antenna to shoulder level to minimize RF body absorption and improve signal range.
-
Two Specialized Variants: Standard commercial configuration (PMMN4060B) or CSA-certified intrinsically safe configuration (PMMN4060BSP01) for regulated hazardous facilities.
-
Windporting Acoustic Technology: Eliminates wind howl during severe storms and drains surface water away from the microphone element.
-
IMPRES Smart Audio Processing: Automatically optimizes audio gain, suppressing ambient background noise and enhancing vocal intelligibility.
-
Tactical Control Interface: Includes a top-mounted emergency button, side programmable key, high/low volume toggle, and an oversized PTT paddle.
-
Integrated 3.5 mm Audio Jack: Unthreaded secondary audio port allows connection of receive-only earpieces for discrete voice reception.
-
Rugged 24-Inch Coiled Cord: Sized specifically for shoulder epaulet and chest harness wear without excess cable slack.
-
Direct GCAI Interface: Secures firmly to APX portable radios using a heavy-duty multi-pin GCAI connector with captive thumbscrew.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between part numbers ending in "A", "B", and "BSP01"?
Motorola Solutions uses trailing letter suffixes (such as A or B) to designate internal manufacturing revisions. The PMMN4060B represents the current manufacturing revision, superseding the earlier PMMN4060A with identical form, fit, and operational performance. The PMMN4060BSP01 variant is a specialized factory revision carrying official Canadian Standards Association (CSA) intrinsic safety certification for deployment in explosive or hazardous industrial atmospheres.
Why are the compatible radio lists different between PMMN4060B and PMMN4060BSP01?
Intrinsic safety standards (such as CSA) mandate that accessories be certified as an integrated system with specific radio and battery combinations. The PMMN4060BSP01 was officially tested and certified for hazardous environments exclusively on the APX 3000, APX 6000, APX 6000XE, APX 7000, APX 7000XE, and SRX 2200. The standard commercial PMMN4060B variant carries no HazLoc certification and is indexed in Motorola systems for non-incendive APX 5000 deployments.
Why is VHF operation not supported on this microphone?
Public safety microphones pass the RF transmission signal through an internal coaxial lead running inside the coiled cable up to the microphone head. Due to cable physics and impedance matching across the 24-inch lead, VHF frequencies (136–174 MHz) suffer excessive signal attenuation and detuning. The PMMN4060B is designed and calibrated specifically for UHF and 700/800 MHz frequency bands.
Does this microphone include an antenna?
No. The antenna is sold separately. A compatible Motorola public safety antenna must be threaded onto the top SMA connector of the microphone head to transmit and receive RF signals.
Can I plug a secondary earpiece into this microphone?
Yes. The PMMN4060B includes an unthreaded 3.5 mm audio jack located on the side of the housing, allowing users to connect a secondary receive-only earpiece for discrete communications.
