Does the Motorola XPR5550e or XPR5580e need to be programmed?
Yes, both radios must be programmed with your licensed frequencies before use. You’ll be asked at checkout whether you’d like programming, or you can add it in advance via our Atlantic Radio Programming Services page. To program them yourself, you’ll need the Motorola CPS 2.0 software (HKVN4362A) and the PMKN4010B USB programming cable, both sold separately.
What is the difference between the XPR5550e and XPR5580e?
The XPR5550e is available in VHF and UHF bands. The XPR5580e is optimized for 800/900 MHz operations and is ideal for public safety agencies and utilities already operating on 800/900 MHz infrastructure. Both share the same full-color display, 1,000-channel capacity, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS feature set.
What is the difference between Capable and Enabled versions?
Enabled models come with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS pre-activated. Capable models include the hardware but require software licenses to unlock those specific data features.
Does this radio support text messaging?
Yes, both the XPR5550e and XPR5580e support text messaging and Work Order Ticketing directly from the radio.
Can these radios be used on a trunked system?
Yes, both radios support Capacity Plus, Linked Capacity Plus, and Capacity Max trunking systems.
Can I use this radio as a desktop base station?
Yes. By adding the GPN6145 desktop power supply, you can use either radio as a dispatch base station without a vehicle power connection.
