Frequently Asked Questions
Did Hytera replace the PD502i?
Yes. Hytera released the HP602 as the modernized, next-generation replacement for the PD502i. The HP602 offers enhanced digital features, improved audio, and a more rugged design. The PD502i remains a capable radio for existing deployments but is no longer in production — contact Atlantic Radio to explore HP602 options for your fleet.
Does the PD502i need to be programmed?
Yes, the PD502i must be programmed with your licensed frequencies before use. You'll be asked at checkout whether you'd like programming, or you can add it in advance via our Atlantic Radio Programming Services page. To program it yourself, you'll need the Hytera CPS software and a PC63 programming cable, both sold separately.
Is the Hytera PD502i still available?
The PD502i is End-of-Life and has been discontinued by Hytera. Atlantic Radio has remaining stock available while supplies last. Contact us to confirm current availability before ordering.
What is the difference between the VHF and UHF versions of the PD502i?
VHF models operate on lower frequencies and are better suited for outdoor environments with open terrain. UHF models operate on higher frequencies and provide better penetration through buildings and structures, making them ideal for indoor deployments. Contact Atlantic Radio to confirm which frequency band is appropriate for your environment.
Can the PD502i work with my existing analog radios?
Yes. The PD502i operates in both analog and digital (DMR) mode, allowing it to communicate with existing analog radios while you transition your fleet to digital over time.
What is the UL913 version and do I need it?
The UL913 version of the PD502i is intrinsically safe and certified for use in hazardous locations where flammable gases, vapors, or dust may be present — such as oil and gas facilities, chemical plants, or grain handling operations. If your environment does not have these hazards, the standard version is appropriate.
What licenses are required for Priority Interrupt and Remote Monitor features?
Priority Interrupt, Remote Monitor (decode), and Radio Enable/Disable (decode) features require a separate software license. Contact Atlantic Radio for licensing options and pricing.
What is XPT and does the PD502i support it?
XPT (Extended Pseudo Trunking) is Hytera's single-site trunking solution that improves channel efficiency for larger deployments. The PD502i supports XPT Single Site with a license upgrade. Contact Atlantic Radio for details.
Warranty
The Hytera PD502i includes a 1-year manufacturer's warranty. As an End-of-Life product, warranty service and parts availability may be limited. Please contact Atlantic Radio Communications for warranty claims or support inquiries.
